Modern Bamboo Architecture
Introduction :-
Explanation:-
Bamboo has the image of being the building material of the poorer class, for example in Colombia the upper class especially prefers concrete. In India the highest caste builds with stone, the middle castes use wood and only the lowest castes use bamboo. The material bamboo is not standardized so people in Europe are confronted with difficulties, if they want to build with bamboo.
Bamboo can be utilized as a building material as for scaffolding, bridges and houses. Bamboo has a higher compressive strength than wood, brick or concrete and a tensile strength that rivals steel. Bamboos are some of the fastest-growing plants in the world, due to a unique rhizome-dependent system.
Bamboo Architecture. Once thought of as the building material of the poor, bamboo is now being used more prominently in all types of architecture. From houses to business buildings, there are more and more places that are being built with bamboo as a main material or at least an accenting material of the architecture.

Introduction :-
It is a fact that literature about bamboo in modern architecture is hard to find. At this time bamboo is just used as a forming and constructive element. Bamboo was introduced to Europe through some sporadic organisations and trial projects.
In regions where bamboo is domestic, it was not just integrated in culture, but even in architecture. The logical conclusion is that architects of these regions are more interested in presenting the qualities of this material to us.

Some famous architects and engineers already made their experiments with this natural product. The qualities of bamboo are also appreciated by Renzo Piano. He was interested in combining light metal elements [tubes /slabs] with bamboo. In this way there arise intersections between bamboo- and modern light metal- constructions, Arata Isozaki, Buckminster Fuller und Frei Otto.

The most important quality of bamboo is its environmentally friendly quality. It is renewable and bamboo forests can be grown in a few years. The roots in bamboo help control soil erosion as it creates a water barrier. Developing countries use bamboo to protect their crops and villages from washing away.
Advantages of Building with Bamboo. One of the main advantages of building with bamboo is that it is a wonderful, natural and renewable resource, capable of rapid growth that can avoid future deforestation of our precious tropical rainforests.
Example:-
Kontum Indochine CafĂ© – Vietnam
The restaurant and banqueting hall of the Kne Hotel is designed by Vo Trong Nghia Architects. The architects were inspired by traditional Vietnamese baskets to design the 15 conical bamboo columns from bamboo which supports the roof of the structure. The roof itself is composed of plastic panels clad in bamboo.
